Criteria:

The Public Health Service Hazardous Duty Service Award is an award of the Department of Health and Human Services that is presented to a service member for service in a position that frequently places an officer’s safety at risk. This service must be for a prolonged period of time, 200 exposure hours over a 180 consecutive day period. Assignments where an officer’s professional knowledge should significantly reduce or remove the risk are not qualified for the award. Ships sailing in international waters that have stops at international ports qualify for the award. While it is considered a civilian award it is approved for wear on all military uniforms.
