United States Navy Nurse Corps Collar Device
Criteria: The U.S. Navy Nurse Corps was officially established by Congress in 1908; however, unofficially, women have been working as nurses aboard Navy ships and in Navy hospitals for nearly 100 years. The Nurse Corps continues as a prominent part of the Navy Medicine establishment. As of 2010, the Director of the Navy Nurse Corps is Rear Admiral Elizabeth S. Niemeyer, the 23rd Director of the Navy Nurse Corps. Currently, it consists of officers of the rank of Ensign and to Rear Admiral. Navy Nurse Corps officers are commissioned through ROTC, STA-21, MECP, Nurse Candidate Program, or by direct commission.
